Where Will You Be in 5 Years?

Pause for a second. Imagine that nothing changes in the way you approach your work and daily life; that you keep doing exactly what you’ve been doing up to now.

What will your life look like 5 years down the road?

This question often makes people really uncomfortable. They prefer me to ask “What do you plan on having accomplished in 5 years?” And while that is a great question for planning, it’s very easy to make a plan, feel good about it and then go right back to doing what you were doing before.

Don’t get me wrong — planning and dreaming big is key to making any kind of big change in your life. But if you don’t get honest with yourself about the ramifications of your daily actions in the present, chances are you won’t be able to follow through on those plans.

“If you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always gotten.”

So really think about your big dream — do you want to write a book, make a ton of money, move to a different country, spend more time with your family? Now take a good look your default behaviours and whether they’re taking you closer to that goal, or further away.

The bad news? Most of us have at least one behaviour or pattern that’s taking us further away from our big goal. The good news? You can absolutely fix that.

For example, if you want to spend more time with your family but take care of every part of your business yourself, then that’s not going to happen unless you change something. However, there are some relatively simple fixes and techniques of ‘do, ditch, delegate’ that I talk abut in my new book ‘Do Less, Get More’ to help you.

Likewise, if you want to take your business to a million pounds but you’re selling non-scaleable services, then that’s going to be really difficult. Now, if you read my previous blog How To Connect With Your Industry Hero then you will know the power of great connections in learning to scale your business.

My point? You have a chance every day, every minute to take a step closer to your dream. Don’t put it off.

I truly believe that you can make pretty much whatever you want happen in your life — but you have to take action! Big, dramatic action is definitely important, but little day-to-day choices that build up and create momentum are what sees you through to the end.

I’d love to know … what are you going to do RIGHT NOW to take you closer to your big dream? Tell me all about it in the comments!
