24 Jan Not Rocket Science:
How To Create An Online Income This Year
It’s that time of year when we’re all full of good intentions. You know, lose a stone. Run every day. Spend more time with your family. Travel. Chill out.
Maybe even start that online business that gives you the freedom you want and deserve?
Well, I can definitely help you with that one.
Perhaps you’re ready to change the way you work and earn forever. Perhaps you’re the kind of person who’s been bold enough to say, ‘I want life to be better’.
Perhaps you’re ready to take that step towards building the life you want.
It can feel a pretty daunting to stand on the threshold of your dreams.
All those things you hope and wish for. How are you going to make them a reality? Where do you even start?
Believe me, I’ve been there.
But it always comes back to this: business is not rocket science. It’s process and determination and tenacity. If you’ve got an idea, there’s nothing much that can stop you, if you’re willing to put in the work and keep at it.
And you know what? I’m proof that this is the case.
A few years ago, I started to sell online courses and started out with nothing. No customer list, no previous experience of creating online courses.
But I tackled it logically and with a whole lot of determination and well, let’s just say I am now living my best life. In fact, I believe in it so much, I want to share how I did it with you
Let’s break it down and start with process, so you can see just how do-able creating an income from an online business really is.
Here are my essential 7 steps:
1. Find someone to guide you
I’m a pretty independent person and I’m used to doing things for myself. But I realized that if I was going to change my life, I was going to need some help.
And you’re going to need some help too, no matter how independent or fabulous or intelligent you are.
A mentor—someone to guide you and encourage you—is the first thing you need. And I promise you, they’ll become an invaluable part of your journey.
So be bold and ask. Find the person who can teach you something, who is equally passionate as you about creating an online business and who will believe in you. Who knows? I might just be that mentor for you!
2. Show people what you’re made of
Now’s the time to start showing people what you know and what you care about. How? Through compelling content that builds awareness of who you are, what you’re doing and how it can help people.
A blog is a great place to start. Don’t be self-conscious; just write from the heart about what inspires you and what you’re capable of.
3. Build your tribe
If, like me, you’re starting with no customer list to speak of, it’s time to put that great content you’re creating to work and start building your email list.
This is going to be the backbone of your online business, so start now.
Ask people who visit your blog to sign up, encourage people to share your content with their friends and get yourself set up on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to start making those all-important connections.
4. Listen and deliver
One of the most popular misconceptions about launching an online business is that you need to have your product perfected and ready to go first.
Not so! In fact, you might even end up wasting precious time and effort on something that the market doesn’t want.
That’s why it’s important to start the conversation (through your brilliant content) first, then ask people what it is that they want to buy.
Use social media and your email list to have these conversations and listen hard to what people are telling you—over time, you might even uncover some unexpected ways (like an exclusive membership site and in-person events) to make money as part of your business.
5. Nurture and create
Now that you know what people want to buy, it’s time to put together your product.
If you’ve asked the right questions, you can feel confident that you’re creating something that meets the needs of your audience.
But don’t forget to nurture that audience.
Use your growing email list and social media to share updates and keep interest high.
That way, once you’re ready to launch, you’ve got a heap of people who are already engaged and ready to buy.
Launch time! Once your product is ready and tested (don’t miss this bit), it’s time to tell the world.
Make the most of social media, your email list and all of your contacts (including friends, family, old colleagues, other parents from school, anyone you can think of!) to shout about it.
This is no time to be quiet or modest or shy. After all, you’ve worked hard to make this happen, so go ahead and tell the world.
7. Rinse and repeat
You’re not done yet. Oh, no.
The thing is, for every launch you do, you’ll learn things about how to make it even better.
You’ll come up with a whole load of new ideas and believe me, you’ll be hungry for more.
So now that you’ve done it once, what’s to stop you from doing it all over again?
And the good news is, now that you’ve followed the process, you know exactly how to tackle it every single time.
This is the beauty of creating your online business.
You’re not limited to launching one product—you can launch as many as you like. And if you ask me, that’s the definition of professional and financial freedom: a business that you can scale easily.
So you could go ahead and follow my process and I think you’ll get results.
But if you still feel a bit overwhelmed or, like a lot of people, you feel like you need a little more structure and accountability, then The Club may well be exactly what you need.
