10 Mar The Importance Of Being You … And How To Design A Website You Love
When you run a business, you need to find a way to ‘stand out from the crowd’. No matter what industry you are in, I can guarantee there will be someone else doing what you do. So what makes you different? What makes you special?
You do. That’s right. You.
So, if your website looks like it got stuck in the 1990’s or just looks like a replica of everyone else’s in your industry; you are doing both yourself and your business a disservice. We all know that people buy from people, so when someone goes to your website, who do they see?
Maybe you’re thinking “But I do most of my business in person.” Maybe you do, but those people will *still* go to your website and when they get there, do they see you, or just a cookie cutter version of everyone else?
In 2014, your website IS your brand. So if you want a brand you love, you need to love your website. You need to think “This is the best designed website I could create. This is me.”
I have to confess, I am madly, passionately in love with my new site (and I hope you are too!), but I also have to admit that it took me 3 attempts to get it right! Yes, 3. In 12 months!
Most people would have thought, I can’t justify doing it all over again. All that time and money. Yet secretly you know what you’ve got isn’t quite right, it’s not really “you’ …
Well, I decided “good enough” wasn’t actually good enough. Not when it came to my website. I wanted something that I could be proud of, something that really felt like … Me.
The third time round, I dedicated real time to understand what it was that I wanted from the site; both in terms of how it looked (this was REALLY important to me) how it functioned (crucial for your business) and how flexible it needed to be for the future (I have loads of new functionality coming up over the next few months). The truth is working with amazing designers and coders like I did is absolutely crucial, but you will make their job a whole lot easier if you are clear on what you want and what you want your site to do.
A BIG, BIG thankyou to sotechnology.co.uk who have created a site that I truly love. Please don’t all rush them at once – I’ve got more work for them to do!
So here it is, shaa.com would love to know what you think, please leave me a comment!
