This simple technique is ideal for luring a snapalope away from the herd. To use, simply hide behind a shelf and
hold the decoy around the base of the neck, just as you would a tennis racket. Then slowly move the head of the
decoy out from behind the shelf to a point where the snapalope can see it. Ensure that the head of the decoy is
about two feet off the ground and that your hand and arm remain concealed. Once a snapalope gets within a few
feet of your position, you’re ready to pounce. Sometimes using a snapalope call in combination with a decoy yields
better results (see the section about snapalope calls).

| To construct a decoy, you´ll need three Giant Slim Jim wrappers, brown pipe cleaners, and some duct tape.
First, slide the pipe cleaners inside the Slim Jim wrappers. Take one of these, and bend it at the end to
make the snout of the snapalope. Once you´ve done this, use the duct tape to attach the other Giant Slim
Jims to the top of the decoy´s head to form the antlers. Should you have abnormally large hands or perhaps
an extra finger, S.H.A.A. recommends making the neck longer so that you can achieve a tight and comfortable
grip on the decoy. |
